Silvina Ocampo
Silvina Inocencia Ocampo was born in Buenos Aires on 28 July 1903 and died in the same city on 14 December 1993. She was a writer, short story writer and poet, and initially trained in the visual arts, studying painting and drawing in Paris with artists linked to surrealism.
She was the sister of Victoria Ocampo, founder of the magazine Sur, and the wife of the writer Adolfo Bioy Casares, with whom she had a very close personal and literary relationship. For many years her work was partly overshadowed by these names, but today she is recognised as a central author of the Argentine canon.
She taught us what envy is.
