A literary experience that defies all conventions and sets the nerves on edge, simply by virtue of being an outlier to the Russian literary tradition.

In "The Storm", we are always seconds, or metres, away from catastrophe. Each page is a swamp we cannot resist entering. Sorokin does not deny the legacy of Russian literature. He subverts it. Its legacy. And the "great Russian novel".

In a place without a defined time, with as much future as past, it is a descent to the place where, in the gorge, the distant echo of our civilisation resounds. The journey, through the storm, is therefore not merely that. It is possible that progress is an illusion.

No.
It is not a question.
It is an assertion.

Vladimir Sorokin was born on 7 September 1955, in Bykovo, near Moscow, Russia. He is one of the most innovative writers in contemporary Russian literature. Alive and active, Sorokin built his career in the ruins of national myths. Literature not as an altar, but as a laboratory where limits are tested. Admired and hated, accused of obscenity and cultural betrayal, he responds with works that refuse domestication. If the tradition of Russian literature seeks to save the soul, Sorokin plunges it into acid to see what remains.
