A demanding narrative that confirms the Hungarian author as one of the great visionaries of contemporary literature. Published in 2021, the book follows a strange pilgrim who arrives in a small German town, Herscht, identified by a postcode that seems more like an enigma than a place.

From this starting point, Krasznahorkai constructs a meditation on language, faith, ruin, and the possibility of meaning in a disintegrating world. The text advances in long paragraphs, without visible pauses, in a flow that blends mysticism with the absurd, philosophy with everyday life.

An invitation to abandon narrative and immerse yourself in a space where thought and fiction blur. Herscht 07769 is a journey through an inner Europe, exhausted and yet irreducibly alive. Its strength lies in its ability to transform confusion into order, and despair into lucidity.

László Krasznahorkai (b. 1954), born in Hungary, is recognized as one of the most singular and intense voices in world literature. His writing, characterized by long sentences and an almost musical cadence, combines metaphysical pessimism with an extreme attention to human detail. Works such as Melancholy of Resistance and War and War established him as an heir to a European tradition ranging from Kafka to Beckett, but with an absolutely distinctive language. Krasznahorkai writes against haste and against superficiality, offering the reader a literature that demands time, silence, and total commitment.
