Diário Selvagem, by Luiz Pacheco, «until now almost entirely unpublished, is a mythical book, listed and discussed in numerous letters and chronologies by the author, to which only a few biographers and scholars have had access».

Today it is out and it is a day of celebration. And it is for the readers and for them only that, taking stock of the legacy of Luiz Pacheco, we take this step towards finally ending an absurd embargo on the work, so that it does not remain retained in the estate of those little gentlemen who can shell out a pretty penny for the added pleasure of keeping the libertine captive. (Língua Morta, Editorial Note)

Tall, thin and gangly, bald, wearing glasses with very thick lenses due to severe myopia, dressed in worn (sometimes tattered and undersized) clothes, hypersensitive to alcohol (he liked red wine and beer), hypochondriac always on the verge of death (due to asthma and a weak heart), impenitently cynical and honest, paradoxical and disconcerting.

He devoted himself to literary and cultural criticism, becoming famous (and feared) for his sarcastic, irreverent, and controversial reviews, and denounced the intellectual dishonesty and censorship imposed by the Salazar regime.

Another Day of Night (Documentary): "Luiz Pacheco is a two-legged paradox". This is just one of the definitions attributed to the man/writer/publisher/literary critic. Over the course of 58 minutes we have the opportunity to hear the testimony of Luiz Pacheco himself and those who lived with him closely or still do.
