Published in 1925, "The Rumour of Time" is an autobiographical account by one of the greatest poets of the 20th century. A tragic figure, Mandelstam (1891-1938) was a prominent figure in his time, and died during the Stalinist era of terror in a Siberian prison.

This edition, translated from Russian into Brazilian Portuguese, also includes "Journey to Armenia" (1932-33), a work that concludes the author's cycle of fictional prose.

The "icing on the cake" is the translator Paulo Bezerra's Afterword and an unpublished essay by Nobel Prize in Literature Seamus Heaney, which analyzes the poet's life and work and the efforts of his wife, Nadiéjda Mandelstam, to preserve his legacy from the persecution of the Stalinist regime.
