The book Propaganda, written by Edward Bernays in 1928, is a fundamental work for understanding modern techniques of persuasion and mass communication. Bernays, considered the "father of public relations", argues that the conscious and intelligent manipulation of the habits and opinions of the masses is an essential element for modern democratic society.

His vision, although controversial, is clear: there is an invisible elite that shapes collective thinking through the media, advertising, and public relations.

Throughout the book, Bernays demonstrates how propaganda can be used not only in politics and business, but also to promote social causes or influence cultural patterns. He does not see propaganda as necessarily negative, but as a powerful tool that, if used ethically, can contribute to the organization and stability of society. However, this idea raises important questions about manipulation, individual freedom, and the role of information in a democracy.

Edward Bernays was born in 1891 in Vienna, Austria, but grew up in the United States. Nephew of Sigmund Freud, he took advantage of his uncle's knowledge of psychology to develop innovative methods of communication and influence.

Throughout his career, he worked with governments, companies, and organizations, using propaganda strategies to shape public opinion. His pioneering approach combined psychology, sociology, and marketing, establishing the foundations for what we now know as modern public relations.

Bernays passed away in 1995, but his legacy remains extremely relevant, especially in an era dominated by the media and digital information.
