A Little Lumpen Romance
After the untimely death of their parents in a tragic road accident, Bianca, barely more than a teenager, surrenders to an apathetic existence, without a future or hope, together with her younger brother. Orphans and alone in the city of Rome, without money, both are forced to drop out of school to go to work: she in a hair salon, he in a gym where he meets two men of dubious reputation, the Bolognese and the Libyan, whom he gives shelter in his home. When they devise a criminal plan targeting a blind former bodybuilder that will allow the four of them to escape poverty, Bianca senses that her fall will be even more dizzying.
The last published work by Roberto Bolaño, later adapted to cinema, A Small Lumpen Romance, unpublished in our country, is a brilliant and unforgettable narrative about adolescence, the loss of innocence and marginality, starring a heroine who has nothing to lose.
