Personal selection, translation and preface (Adolfo Luxuria Canibal) of the poetry of Mayakovski, written between 1912 and 1930.

1912 is the year of the manifesto «A Slap in the Face of Public Taste», the first manifestation of Russian Futurism. 1930 is the year of his suicide, by pistol shot.

This selection focused only on the poetry, deliberately setting aside all his poems, in the Russian sense of the term. Thus, some of the essential texts of his poetic writing were left out, such as «A Cloud of Trousers», «War and the World», «150,000,000», «About This», «Lenin» or «The Flying Proletarian».

« Considering that any one of these works would, by itself, make a small book, I preferred to focus on a portrait of Mayakovski's creative multiplicity, which the collection of shorter and more scattered texts over the years makes possible. » ADC

Vladimir Mayakovski (1893-1930, Russia) was a Russian poet and playwright, one of the great innovators of 20th-century poetic language, alongside Ezra Pound and T.S. Eliot.
