The Adventures of Miss Boston, the First Woman Detective
Long before Charlie's Angels, Jessica Fletcher, Miss Marple and even Judith Lee, there was Ethel Boston, the first female consulting detective in America, a former associate of Nick Carter, trained by the famous detective William Hopkins.
Miss Boston was the prototype of the New Woman, who believed in and fought for sexual and legal equality with men. She was educated, athletic and vigorous, and avoided marriage because it interfered with her personal fulfilment and independence.
Miss Boston not only achieved equality, but surpassed it. Created by Antonin Reschal (1874-1935), the adventures of Miss Boston and those of her assistant, Chief Inspector Sokes, went through 20 episodes published in Paris in 1908-09.
This book brings together all her exploits, published (press originals, Portugal, between 1910 and 1911) in various newspapers in Portugal, including the adventure in which she helps Dr. Watson capture the murderer of Sherlock Holmes, and the saga of her battle against the Gang of a Hundred Thousand Bodies.
It arrived on Netflix, as a series.
