Mirafiori

It all begins with a reunion between two lovers in a Fiat 131 Mirafiori parked outside a train station. Valentina Barreiro and the narrator met as teenagers, spent several passionate years together, then spent just as many apart, and throughout it all shared a ghostly secret. Now, they have agreed to meet.

They separated when they realised that the past «was a second-hand joy» and was no longer enough to build a future together. Time has deepened the chasm between them: at 40, Valentina is a successful actress; he is nothing more than a mediocre writer, penniless and prone to vices and obsessions.

The long-awaited reunion is described in meticulous detail: what happens between them, what they do and do not do, what they say and leave unsaid, what they expect and desire. But did it really happen? It is in this limbo that the plot unfolds: in the uncertainty between reality and dream, past and present, facing an unknown future.

Mirafiori is the story of a love that spans decades, like an island surrounded by a web of mysteries. A spellbinding narrative about the beauty of that which cannot be explained.
