On September 13, 2022, Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian student, was detained and beaten to death by religious police in Tehran. Her only crime was not wearing the headscarf imposed on women by the Islamic Republic "correctly". The fate of this 22-year-old woman sparked an unprecedented wave of protests that quickly spread across the country.
