2009, 1st edition, as only Assírio & Alvim knew how to do.
Leafing through it, you would say it has never been read.

Physically frail and born with a stammer, Mizoguchi is the only son of a Zen monk. Throughout his life, he feels diminished and self-conscious because of his stammer, which leads him to isolate himself.

When the time comes, he goes to study to become a monk at the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto. Concerned with Beauty from an early age, Mizoguchi develops an obsessively dependent relationship with the temple, which becomes another obstacle to his interaction with the outside world.

For him, The Golden Pavilion was the ultimate and supreme incarnation of Beauty, a concept that overwhelms his entire existence. Set against the backdrop of the Second World War and post-war Japan, The Golden Pavilion is almost an interior monologue that reflects Mizoguchi's repression and obsession, from which he eventually frees himself in a perverse ending.
