Birds in the mouth

“If you bash someone’s head against the asphalt too much—even if it’s to make them be reasonable—you’ll probably end up regretting it. This was something my mother taught me from the very beginning, the day I banged Fredo’s head against the floor of the schoolyard.”

In Birds in the Mouth, an anthology of stories awarded the Casa de las Américas Prize, eighteen stories come together in which, like in a Lynch film or a Kafkaesque nightmare, the bizarre and the grotesque burst violently into the normality of everyday life, leaving characters and readers at their mercy.

This is the world of Samanta Schweblin, a private territory that forces us to actively participate in unraveling the enigmas that form the foundation of the stories and to become spectators of the theater of human relationships.
