Hard, raw, sexually explicit. With all the names.

A road trip across the United States, through Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty, filled with sex, drugs, alcohol, and freedom. It is considered Kerouac's masterpiece, one of the leading exponents of the Beat generation in the United States, and was a major influence on young people in the context of the 1960s counterculture. It was first published in 1957.

This is the previously unpublished edition, the text that emerged in its original scroll form. It represents the first and most genuine expression of Kerouac's ideas, the moment when his vision and narrative voice came together in the form of a continuous flow of creative energy.

This version is harder, rawer, and more sexually explicit than the previously published novel. Kerouac also uses the real names of his friends, including Neal Cassady, Allen Ginsberg, and William S. Burroughs. This edition was prepared by Howard Cunnell, together with three other scholars of Kerouac's work. Cunnell studied the history and origin of the scroll and all its subsequent transformations until it became the published and well-known text.

On the Road: The Original Scroll is, without a doubt, one of the most significant documents in the contemporary history of American literature.

"For the teenage girls, he was the mad poet, the first love they never forgot, with his talk of hitchhiking on freight trains and cars, on the road. Kerouac created a modern-style hero in On the Road; he invented the Beat Generation, originated a way of living and a way of writing."

Jack Kerouac was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, in 1922. In 1947, excited by bebop and the rebellious attitude of his friend Neal Cassidy, he decided to set out to discover America, crossing the country by hitchhiking. In his writing, which was clearly autobiographical, he developed a style he defined as "spontaneous prose" and used to record the experiences of the Beat Generation. Among his various novels, On the Road, Maggie Cassidy, The Subterraneans, The Dharma Bums, and Big Sur stand out.
He died in 1969.
